Description

  • Conduct legal research across regulatory frameworks, case law, statutes, and regulatory filings.
  • Research utility tariffs, rate design regulations, cost allocation rules, billing compliance issues, and consumer protection law.
  • Support case strategy, discovery, litigation outcomes, and settlement negotiations with foundational research.
  • Evaluate expert reports and other case materials to identify relevant legal issues and insights.
  • Prepare clear, concise, and well-organized research memoranda and reports.
  • Verify findings independently and maintain accuracy and verifiability in all research work.
  • Collaborate with attorneys, paralegals, and business teams on research requests and case questions.
  • Manage multiple research projects, priorities, and deadlines.
  • Mentor junior researchers and help build scalable research protocols and knowledge management systems.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in legal research, contract research, litigation support, law firm research departments, or in-house legal research roles.
  • Law degree is not required.
  • Expert-level proficiency with Westlaw, LexisNexis, PACER, regulatory databases, and other legal research platforms.
  • Ability to design searches, formulate queries, manage sources, and verify findings independently.
  • Strong legal writing skills for clear, concise memoranda and research reports.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to synthesize complex case law, statutes, and regulations into actionable insights.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative without extensive hand-holding.
  • Intellectual curiosity and willingness to master utility regulation, tariff analysis, and cost recovery topics.
  • Organized project management skills and ability to prioritize multiple requests and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) and Google Workspace.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills for collaboration with attorneys, paralegals, and business teams.
  • Full-time availability with a dedicated, distraction-free workspace and reliable high-speed internet.
  • Availability to work 9:00 a.m.–6:00 p.m. Eastern Time.
  • Residence in a U.S. state within one hour of Eastern Time (ET or CT).
  • U.S. citizenship or active Green Card required; no visa sponsorship available.
  • Paralegal certification (CP/CLP) or a legal studies degree preferred.
  • Prior experience in litigation support or discovery management preferred.
  • Familiarity with utility regulation, FERC, state PUCs, or utility-related litigation preferred.
  • Experience with knowledge management or legal research database design preferred.

Benefits

  • Salary of $55,000–$70,000 per year, commensurate with experience.
