Description

  • Prepare accurate and commercially competitive cost estimates for structural steel, mechanical, piping, fabrication, maintenance, and industrial projects.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, technical specifications, scopes of work, and project documentation to produce complete estimating submissions.
  • Perform detailed quantity take-offs and material take-offs for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and related project costs.
  • Develop bottom-up estimates using company estimating templates, methodologies, and pricing tools.
  • Manage multiple RFQs concurrently while meeting accuracy standards and submission deadlines.
  • Deliver tender and quotation submissions on time and ensure they are compliant and commercially competitive.
  • Support estimating for reactive maintenance work, shutdown projects, urgent fabrication requests, breakdowns, and ad-hoc client pricing requests.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key clients through responsive estimating support.
  • Contribute to business growth through new project opportunities, tenders, and strategic client pursuits.
  • Maintain estimate records, assumptions, pricing inputs, supplier quotations, and supporting documentation.
  • Collaborate with operations, project managers, workshop personnel, fabrication teams, and management to align estimates with operational capabilities.
  • Participate in estimate reviews, tender discussions, project planning meetings, and internal commercial reviews.
  • Review estimate performance and help improve turnaround times, pricing accuracy, win rates, estimating methodologies, and internal processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, Project Management, or a related discipline preferred.
  • Proven experience estimating within structural, mechanical, and piping (SMP) environments.
  • Experience estimating fabrication, maintenance, industrial, mining, manufacturing, energy, or heavy industry projects.
  • Strong ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, P&IDs, specifications, and technical documentation.
  • Experience preparing detailed quantity take-offs, cost build-ups, and comprehensive project estimates.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication processes, construction methodologies, labour productivity, and material costing.
  • Knowledge of structural steel, mechanical systems, piping systems, and associated installation activities.
  • Experience pricing maintenance, shutdown, brownfield, or industrial services projects is highly advantageous.
  • Structural or Mechanical Engineering qualifications or background would be highly regarded.
  • Exposure to project planning tools such as Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software would be beneficial.
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and estimating workbooks.
  • Experience working with document management systems such as SharePoint or similar platforms.
  • Excellent commercial awareness with the ability to balance competitiveness, profitability, and risk management.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to estimate accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple competing priorities and deliver high-quality work under tight deadlines.
  • Highly organised with strong documentation and record-keeping skills.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Results-oriented mindset with a focus on achieving quality outcomes and meeting deadlines.
