Description

  • Own the end-to-end statistical disclosure-control framework, including methodological standards, risk thresholds, and documentation requirements.
  • Sign HIPAA Expert Determinations for complex, novel, and high-visibility data products and document re-identification risk assessments for audit or regulatory review.
  • Serve as final technical reviewer and co-signer for determinations prepared by other Privacy Biostatisticians.
  • Establish and lead peer-review and case-defense processes for the team’s signing authority.
  • Develop risk methodologies for emerging modalities, including genomic, linked multimodal, and AI/ML-derived data products.
  • Evolve profile-level risk methodologies, including dynamic k-anonymity thresholds, quasi-identifier ranking, suppression hierarchies, and re-determination triggers.
  • Partner with security, engineering, Legal, Contracts, clinical informatics, and Product teams on privacy, infrastructure, and go-to-market decisions.
  • Represent Truveta’s privacy-statistics expertise with health system partners, customers, auditors, regulators, and the scientific community.
  • Mentor senior and staff Privacy Biostatisticians toward independent signing authority.
  • Influence product and data strategy to improve data utility while managing residual privacy risk.

Requirements

  • PhD in biostatistics, statistics, epidemiology, or a related quantitative field, or a Master’s degree with equivalent experience and technical leadership.
  • 10+ years of experience applying statistical methods to patient health information, including statistical disclosure control and de-identification.
  • Prior experience signing HIPAA Expert Determinations, with documented cases across multiple data modalities.
  • Experience defining and implementing de-identification methodology at an organizational or platform level.
  • Deep experience with imaging and/or clinical notes in addition to structured EHR or claims data, including linked-modality risk.
  • Expert ability to assess risk across HIPAA Privacy Rule and Security Rule considerations.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills for audit-ready documentation and executive, partner, and regulator audiences.
  • Experience analyzing real-world data in a research setting.
  • Demonstrated success mentoring senior technical staff toward independent signing authority.
  • Experience defending Expert Determinations in regulatory, audit, litigation, or expert-witness settings (preferred).
  • Experience with process Expert Determinations, sdcMicro, dynamic risk methodologies, clinical informatics standards, genomic privacy, or privacy-focused publications/standards contributions (preferred).
  • Authorization to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
