Description

  • Lead the Frontend Guild and make it a useful forum for sharing knowledge, defining standards, and solving cross-team problems.
  • Define frontend guardrails, technical standards, and architectural direction for the vertical.
  • Stay close to technical and architectural decisions across teams and help manage technical debt and risk.
  • Drive the frontend migration from Backbone/EJS toward React and TypeScript on a page-by-page, feature-by-feature basis.
  • Define and promote frontend health standards, including instrumentation, alerting, and SLO patterns.
  • Work with Engineering Managers and the Head of Engineering to balance technical work with product delivery.
  • Mentor engineers across the vertical and help them expand their technical scope.
  • Build trust and relationships with teams so technical leadership is effective across different contexts.
  • Communicate technical trade-offs, risks, and decisions clearly to engineers, designers, and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Shape product and engineering priorities by bridging technical health with organisational goals.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Deep expertise in modern web frontend technologies.
  • Experience operating across multiple teams and codebases, not only within one team.
  • Proven experience setting technical direction and defining standards that engineers follow.
  • Strong relationship-building and trust-building skills.
  • Ability to adapt leadership style to the needs of different teams and situations.
  • Ability to balance technical depth with organisational breadth.
  • Excellent English communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to lead by example through the code you write and the decisions you make.
  • Frontend observability experience, including Datadog, error tracking, monitoring, performance metrics, or web vitals (nice to have).
  • Experience with mobile-first design, atomic design principles, and progressive enhancement for responsive applications (nice to have).
  • Experience experimenting with AI in frontend projects and forming opinions about where it adds value (nice to have).
  • Full-stack mindset and understanding of how frontend and backend communicate (nice to have).
