Description

  • Own backend features end-to-end, including discovery, design, implementation, rollout, and ongoing reliability and operations.
  • Help design and evolve distributed systems, including services, pipelines, and data stores, with attention to performance, scalability, and resiliency.
  • Build and maintain APIs and data access patterns that support analytics and search use cases.
  • Develop, maintain, and optimize scalable data pipelines that power product features, analytics, and machine learning workloads.
  • Ensure data reliability, quality, and performance across systems, and monitor and troubleshoot pipelines for timely delivery.
  • Build strong engineering habits through code reviews, testing, incident readiness, and operational excellence.
  • Apply an experimentation-first approach by defining hypotheses, success metrics, controlled rollouts, A/B tests, and stakeholder readouts.
  • Use AI coding tools productively and responsibly in implementation, debugging, refactoring, and design reviews while maintaining correctness, security, and privacy.
  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Engineers to ship intelligent, data-driven products.
  • Document systems, pipelines, and architecture, and help evolve engineering best practices.

Requirements

  • A few years of professional software engineering experience building backend systems, with interest in larger distributed systems challenges.
  • Strong general-purpose programming skills and software engineering fundamentals.
  • Solid debugging skills and the ability to troubleshoot and performance-tune production services.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills.
  • Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD workflows.
  • Comfort using AI coding assistants like Claude Code, with discipline to validate outputs through tests, metrics, and evaluation.
  • Strong problem-solving and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across functions.
  • Growth mindset, curiosity, and the ability to learn new tools and domains quickly.
  • Experience building and maintaining data pipelines (ETL/ELT) is a plus.
  • Exposure to event-driven architectures, AWS, Docker/Kubernetes, Databricks, Apache Spark, search/retrieval systems, GraphQL, and streaming data pipelines is preferred.
