Description

  • Write elegant, efficient, and testable Ruby code that is easy to maintain and debug.
  • Cover code with automated tests, perform manual testing of features, and review colleagues' work.
  • Design, develop, document, analyze, create, test, and modify cloud-based systems and services powering toptal.com.
  • Collaborate with Infrastructure Engineers on the infrastructure aspects of projects.
  • Contribute to product development and participate in software planning, development, and maintenance.
  • Continuously improve team processes, communicate status and progress, and brainstorm ideas.
  • Mentor team members, provide constructive feedback, and help onboard new hires.
  • Lead technical initiatives and drive improvements to the codebase and engineering processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of web development experience with Ruby on Rails.
  • 5 years of experience with SQL databases.
  • Strong knowledge of object-oriented programming and automated software testing and testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of GraphQL and Kafka preferred but not required.
  • Ability to evaluate multiple quality dimensions including user impact, failure tolerance, maintainability, implementation time, security, and performance.
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills; resumes and communication must be submitted in English.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, rapidly growing, fully remote company and handling varied challenges and deadlines.
  • Must be a world-class individual contributor (role is not primarily a people-manager position).
  • A genuine interest in technology, willingness to learn new concepts and technologies, and to continuously improve professionally.
  • Role is remote but limited to candidates located in Europe and South America; Toptal does not offer visa sponsorship or assistance.
