Description

  • Lead day-to-day validation of device software and hardware for Toast POS devices and peripherals, including printers, scanners, and scales.
  • Ensure current release cycles stay on track and meet the company’s quality standards.
  • Architect and execute a multi-phase transition from functional validation to an automation-first testing strategy.
  • Convert existing functional test cases into automated scripts to reduce test cycle times.
  • Manage and mentor a team of SDETs and QA Engineers.
  • Maintain current testing standards while upskilling the team for automation-focused workflows.
  • Partner with Product and Engineering to validate the full device stack, including device software, Android-based OS components, and physical peripherals.
  • Define quality gates and optimize test coverage based on the scope and impact of changes.
  • Support faster releases for the Device Engineering team without sacrificing reliability.
  • Evaluate and improve the testing approach for hardware, networking equipment, and other physical devices.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience managing QA teams with a focus on device-specific testing and automation in hardware or embedded systems.
  • Strong understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) and validation strategy planning across key phases.
  • Experience testing Android-based hardware, including familiarity with ADB-based operations.
  • Familiarity with automation tools such as Robot Framework, UIAutomator, Python, or equivalent technologies.
  • Proven ability to lead a team through a transition from traditional validation to automation-heavy workflows.
  • Experience with the unique challenges of testing physical hardware such as POS terminals, networking equipment, printers, and peripherals.
  • Sound judgment in risk management, quality gating, and test coverage optimization.
  • Good understanding of how to leverage AI tools to improve test efficiency.
  • Preferred: experience building or scaling physical automation test labs for hardware validation.
  • Preferred: experience collaborating with third-party vendors to integrate emerging test frameworks or specialized hardware tooling.
  • Preferred: good understanding of AOSP (Android Open Source Project).

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $146,000–$234,000 USD for Zone A, $127,000–$203,000 USD for Zone B, or $115,000–$184,000 USD for Zone C.
