Description

  • Build and own the first recommendation features that surface relevant connections, counterparties, and opportunities in the product.
  • Apply classical recommendation methods such as collaborative filtering, clustering, nearest neighbors, and standard ML models to social and transaction data.
  • Introduce embeddings, similarity search, and ranking where they add value.
  • Handle sparse data and cold-start problems for new users and entities.
  • Keep recommendations subtle, relevant, and trustworthy from both a product and UX perspective.
  • Own evaluation using offline metrics and online experiments tied to engagement and adoption.
  • Partner with backend engineering on serving and establish lightweight ML practices as the first data scientist in this area.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience building recommendation or personalization systems in production.
  • Strong understanding of collaborative filtering, clustering, nearest neighbors, and standard ML methods.
  • Knowledge of embeddings, similarity or vector search, ranking, feature engineering, and rigorous evaluation.
  • Strong Python skills with pandas, numpy, and scikit-learn, plus strong SQL.
  • Experience designing and interpreting A/B tests and understanding offline vs. online lift.
  • Strong product and business judgment with a pragmatic, ship-first mindset.
  • Nice to have: experience in capital markets, private credit, or fintech.
  • Nice to have: experience with graph or network methods such as graph embeddings, GNNs, or link prediction.
  • Nice to have: early-stage or founding data scientist experience.
