Description

  • Define instrumentation architecture for met stations, grid interconnection points, and balance-of-plant systems.
  • Author bills of materials, wiring diagrams, loop sheets, panel layouts, and instrument datasheets.
  • Select sensors, transducers, data loggers, gateways, and protective devices aligned with utility and industry standards.
  • Configure and map Modbus RTU/TCP, DNP3, and vendor-specific protocol interfaces.
  • Develop point lists, registers, scaling, units, deadbands, and exception reporting for SCADA/EMS/Historian systems.
  • Implement time synchronization, event logging, and sequence-of-events requirements.
  • Plan and execute FAT/SAT activities and perform end-to-end signal validation from sensor to SCADA.
  • Troubleshoot field instrumentation and communication issues involving grounding, shielding, RS-485 settings, baud rates, and device addressing.
  • Apply redundancy, failover, health monitoring, and cybersecurity best practices for telemetry systems.
  • Build dashboards, alarming, SOPs, calibration procedures, and maintenance schedules, and provide root-cause analysis for data anomalies.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in utility-scale solar, with 100 MW+ projects preferred.
  • Proven expertise with Modbus RTU/ASCII, Modbus TCP, and DNP3 point mapping, scaling, polling, exception reporting, and time sync.
  • Strong knowledge of meteorological station instrumentation, data loggers, and gateways.
  • Proficiency with RS-485 physical layer, industrial Ethernet, and serial-to-TCP conversions.
  • Ability to read and produce P&IDs, single-line diagrams, wiring/loop sheets, and panel layouts using AutoCAD or equivalent.
  • Experience commissioning instrumentation in the field, including calibration, verification, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with SCADA/Historian systems such as Ignition, Wonderware/AVEVA, PI, or ClearSCADA and OT networking fundamentals.
  • Excellent documentation, communication, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • Experience with DNP3 Secure Authentication, TLS-enabled gateways, OT security best practices, or NERC CIP environments is preferred.
  • Background with IEC 61850, MQTT, OPC-UA, power plant controls, inverter telemetry, protection relays, or performance analytics is preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, Instrumentation/Controls, or a related discipline; advanced degree is a plus.
  • Experience with FAT/SAT processes, utility/ISO/RTO telemetry compliance, protocol analyzers, calibration tools, or scripting for test automation is a plus.
