Description

  • Design, develop, and implement new features, complex modules, and critical bug fixes across the full stack for UpdraftCentral and related plugins.
  • Contribute significantly to backend development, server optimization, and hosting-related solutions to improve performance and reliability.
  • Champion code quality by performing and enforcing code reviews and peer review practices to ensure clean, secure, and well-documented code.
  • Mentor and provide technical guidance to other developers to elevate team skills and foster continuous learning.
  • Collaborate with the team to define, evolve, and own technical architecture decisions to ensure scalability, performance, and maintainability.
  • Research, diagnose, and resolve complex technical challenges independently or in collaboration with team members and support.
  • Work closely with product owners and stakeholders to translate product requirements into technical specifications and deliverables.
  • Participate in the full development lifecycle for new releases and platform enhancements, including planning, implementation, and maintenance.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of significant experience in PHP WordPress plugin development with a deep understanding of the WordPress ecosystem, best practices, and APIs.
  • Expert-level proficiency in PHP and experience building complex, object-oriented applications.
  • Proven experience in code review or peer review with the ability to provide constructive feedback and enforce coding standards.
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and providing technical guidance to less experienced developers.
  • Strong command of JavaScript and jQuery for front-end interfaces.
  • Solid practical experience with SQL databases (e.g., MySQL), including database design, query optimization, and performance tuning.
  • Familiarity with version control systems such as Git, GitHub, or GitLab.
  • Experience optimizing plugin performance and implementing data prefetching (highly desirable).
  • Extensive experience with server environments and hosting configurations (e.g., Apache, Nginx, cloud platforms) is a strong plus.
  • Ability to work remotely from anywhere with at least 4 hours of daily overlap with UK working hours.
