Description

Manage the full lifecycle of insurance claims, including scrubbing, submission, and follow-up on rejected or denied claims.
Review accounts receivable aging reports and execute recovery strategies for outstanding balances.
Draft and submit clinical appeals for denied ophthalmic procedures, including injections, surgeries, and diagnostic imaging.
Accurately post insurance payments and patient co-pays in AthenaHealth.
Manage a high-volume surgical and routine exam schedule to support provider flow.
Serve as a primary point of contact for patient inquiries, scheduling requests, and general practice questions.
Perform real-time insurance eligibility checks and explain out-of-pocket costs and coverage differences to patients.
Prepare patient charts with required authorizations and referrals before the date of service.

Requirements

Minimum of 2 years of experience in ophthalmology.
Strong understanding of ophthalmology terminology, including IOLs, macular degeneration, and glaucoma.
Ability to distinguish between routine vision care and medical eye care.
AthenaHealth proficiency, including the claim center, scheduling modules, and patient buckets.
Deep understanding of ICD-10 and CPT coding specific to eye care.
Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills.
Ability to explain complex billing issues to patients with empathy and clarity.
