Description

  • Conduct groundbreaking research in generative audio using diffusion or flow matching models.
  • Research vocal and speech synthesis, including ML-based audio processing and signal processing methods.
  • Research post-training techniques for music generation, including preference alignment, reward modeling, and reinforcement learning.
  • Research iterative music generation and audio editing, such as stem replacement, instrumentation changes, mood changes, tempo changes, and structure changes.
  • Run large-scale experiments using Spotify’s infrastructure and audience of more than 700 million monthly active users.
  • Create practical applications that use generative technologies to improve listening experiences.
  • Collaborate with scientists, engineers, product managers, designers, user researchers, and analysts on cross-functional solutions.
  • Contribute research that has direct impact on Spotify’s products, tools, and services.
  • Publish findings, deliver talks, and attend top research conferences.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science, Mathematics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Previous industry experience is helpful.
  • Experience in one or more of: generative modeling, machine learning, music information retrieval, speech processing, audio processing, signal processing, probabilistic modeling, or computer vision.
  • Deep expertise in at least one focus area such as vocal/speech synthesis, post-training alignment techniques, or audio-to-audio generation and text-guided music editing.
  • Publication record at leading conferences such as ICASSP, ISMIR, INTERSPEECH, ICLR, AAAI, IJCAI, NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ECCV, or ICCV.
  • Strong coding skills in Python, PyTorch, and NumPy.
  • Ability to explain complex topics clearly and build strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Creative problem-solving mindset and interest in building products that add value at scale.
  • Enthusiasm for turning research ideas into products operating at scale.
  • Ability to work within the North Americas region and collaborate in the Eastern Standard time zone.
  • Core working hours of CET 3pm-6pm / EST 9am-12pm.
