Description

  • Own the health, uptime, and performance of Oracle and PostgreSQL databases.
  • Partner with internal customers to understand challenges, communicate improvements, and anticipate future needs.
  • Develop automation for routine database tasks using Python, bash, or similar scripting languages.
  • Engineer, deploy, maintain, and own database monitoring across the environment.
  • Design, implement, and test backup and restore solutions.
  • Engineer and routinely test disaster recovery strategies.
  • Identify and optimize inefficient or abusive queries to improve system efficiency.
  • Design and standardize test conditions and test cases for query and report quality.
  • Research and troubleshoot data issues and support software development teams.
  • Collaborate on problem resolution, team decisions, and project planning.
  • Create documentation, support runbooks, and record database configuration changes.
  • Cross-train, coach, and support the growth of other database engineering and administration staff.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert for database design, optimization, and maintenance.
  • Automate database administration and implementation tasks and provide self-service solutions for customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information systems, or an engineering discipline plus 8+ years of IT experience, or 10+ years of professional experience in database reliability or DevOps in lieu of a degree.
  • 8+ years of experience optimizing SQL queries and data replication.
  • 8+ years of experience developing monitoring tools and tuning databases.
  • Expert-level experience with Oracle and PostgreSQL database technologies.
  • Expertise in at least two database technologies such as MySQL, PostgreSQL, and Oracle.
  • Strong knowledge of Linux, server/storage infrastructure, and troubleshooting.
  • Experience with highly available solutions and clustered environments.
  • Knowledge of configuration management automation and reducing manual toil.
  • Knowledge of data structure design and modeling.
  • Understanding of infrastructure troubleshooting across database and non-database components.
  • Experience with Oracle RAC, RMAN, Barman, PGHero, or similar backup and troubleshooting tools.
  • Experience with GIT and Python.
  • Working knowledge of MS SQL and Windows Server is preferred.
  • Experience with ERP systems is preferred.
  • Machine learning experience is preferred.
  • Big data experience is preferred.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends as needed.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, communication, interpersonal skills, and deadline management.

  • Pay range of $155,000 to $205,000 for Level 1.
