Description

  • Provide technical leadership and strategic guidance for SoFi’s Data Engineering group within the Data Platform organization.
  • Lead the architecture and delivery of large-scale, high-performance data pipelines and processing frameworks.
  • Design scalable data models that support analytics, AI/ML, and real-time data needs.
  • Drive adoption of cloud-native technologies, automation frameworks, and reusable components across the platform.
  • Improve data reliability, cost-efficiency, and latency through org-wide system optimization initiatives.
  • Partner with business stakeholders, product leaders, and engineering teams to align the data roadmap with business objectives.
  • Lead implementation of data privacy, security, compliance, and governance practices in a regulated environment.
  • Mentor Staff and Senior Data Engineers and foster a culture of testing and engineering excellence.
  • Contribute to hiring, interviewing, and onboarding efforts for senior data engineering talent.
  • Participate in on-call support for critical production systems.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 12+ years of experience in data engineering and analytics.
  • At least 4 years of experience in a staff-level or higher capacity.
  • Proven experience leading enterprise-wide data modernization efforts.
  • Hands-on experience with the modern data stack, including Snowflake, Python, SQL, GitLab, AWS, Airflow, and AI tools such as Claude Code or Cursor.
  • Understanding of AI agents; implementation experience is a plus.
  • Expert-level proficiency with relational and cloud database platforms such as Snowflake, Redshift, or GCP.
  • Experience with distributed processing frameworks such as Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka.
  • Strong knowledge of data modeling approaches such as Kimball and Data Vault, database design, and data architecture principles.
  • Exceptional ability to communicate technical concepts and trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and senior management.
  • Deep experience in a highly regulated and governed sector; fintech experience is highly advantageous.
