Description

  • Design, implement, scale, and continuously improve Zipline’s legal and compliance programs across Africa.
  • Lead day-to-day compliance workstreams covering sanctions, anti-bribery and anti-corruption, privacy, healthcare, employment, and product regulations.
  • Support internal investigations, audits, and risk assessments in partnership with People, Finance, and senior leadership.
  • Manage litigation and disputes across Zipline’s African markets.
  • Translate complex regulatory requirements into clear, actionable guidance for business and technical teams.
  • Own compliance with U.S. government award requirements, including FARs and 2 CFR 200.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for U.S. government contracting officers, including the U.S. Department of State.
  • Monitor regulatory and policy developments across African jurisdictions and advise leadership on emerging risks and opportunities.
  • Act as a senior legal advisor to business leaders with pragmatic, risk-calibrated guidance.
  • Help build a culture of compliance and shape long-term legal and regulatory strategy in Africa.

Requirements

  • Senior legal and compliance experience, preferably in international or emerging-market environments.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound judgments in ambiguous, fast-changing environments.
  • Strong ability to break down complex legal and regulatory problems into practical solutions.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including advising senior stakeholders.
  • Collaborative, solutions-oriented mindset with strong organizational skills.
  • Willingness to dive deep into unfamiliar issues and escalate appropriately when needed.
  • Willingness to travel up to approximately 25% to Africa and San Francisco headquarters.
  • Experience with U.S. government award requirements, FARs, and 2 CFR 200 (preferred).
  • Experience managing legal and compliance issues across multiple countries (preferred).
