Description

  • Lead and grow a geographically distributed machine learning team through coaching, career development, conflict management, and regular feedback.
  • Conduct 1:1s, create a safe environment for open discussion, and support learning from both successful and failed experiments.
  • Set goals, identify capability gaps, and improve team processes to increase efficiency and team success.
  • Interview candidates, train the team on interviewing techniques, and help maintain hiring standards as the team grows.
  • Partner with tech leads to pressure-test ideas, prioritize hypotheses, and allocate compute and headcount across experiments.
  • Make evidence-based decisions on which experiments to continue, rework, or stop, and ensure negative results are documented and learned from.
  • Balance committed delivery targets with longer-term research bets and adjust priorities as evidence changes.
  • Bring rigor to experiment evaluation by validating offline performance against online behavior and rolling evaluations.
  • Own delivery cadence by converging experimental workstreams into release candidates and shipping end-to-end.
  • Work closely with Risk stakeholders, platform teams, and engineering leadership to align model work, tooling, and outcomes.

Requirements

  • Roughly 5+ years of experience in machine learning, data science, or ML-adjacent software engineering.
  • At least 3 years of people management experience.
  • Deep expertise in at least one of engineering or applied statistics, with working competence in the other.
  • Experience leading work under uncertainty and changing direction based on evidence.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work autonomously in a fast-moving environment without close supervision.
  • Strong commitment to correctness, reproducibility, and reliability.
  • Experience collaborating with stakeholders across engineering and Risk (preferred).
