Description

  • Create high-quality gameplay animations for combat, locomotion, reactions, and traversal using keyframe animation and motion capture.
  • Clean up, retarget, and polish motion capture into responsive, production-ready gameplay animation sets.
  • Create or modify character rigs, transfer skin weights, and prepare animation-ready assets using HumanIK or similar systems.
  • Work with gameplay designers and engineers on move sets, hit reactions, blend trees, state machines, and root motion.
  • Collaborate closely with character artists, tech art, design, engineering, and production to deliver polished, game-ready animations.
  • Prepare, export, and validate animation assets in FBX format for Unity.
  • Help resolve rigging, skinning, and animation pipeline issues as they arise.
  • Deliver animations from initial blocking through final polish and engine-ready implementation within live-service production constraints.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of professional experience as an animator in games, with a focus on gameplay or combat animation.
  • Experience shipping at least one title with significant gameplay animation work; fighting, action, or sports games are a strong plus.
  • Strong understanding of rigging and skinning, ideally in Autodesk Maya.
  • Strong understanding of mocap data, including cleanup and retargeting for gameplay.
  • Experience with facial and cinematic animation.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk Maya and at least one additional 3D animation package such as MotionBuilder, 3ds Max, or similar.
  • Experience with HumanIK or similar rigging/retargeting systems.
  • Good understanding of body mechanics, weight, timing, and readability under gameplay constraints such as input lag, blending, and canceling.
  • Experience preparing, exporting, and validating FBX assets for real-time engines, ideally Unity, including familiarity with animation state machines and blend trees.
  • A demo reel or portfolio showing shipped or production-quality gameplay animation work.
  • Experience with AI-assisted animation tools in a production pipeline is a bonus.
