Description

  • Design and maintain reliable data pipelines in the central data lake using SparkSQL and PySpark.
  • Build and maintain computed tables that combine structured and unstructured sources such as video, audio, sensor data, product data, customer metadata, and external datasets.
  • Ingest, transform, and integrate source data from IoT devices and software products into the core data model.
  • Deliver high-quality datasets with strong uptime and reliability, including customer-facing datasets.
  • Collaborate with Data Science, Analytics, AI/ML, and other Data Engineers to support causal inference, model training, and dashboarding.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles while helping the company scale globally.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams and participate in customer-focused collaboration to improve outcomes.

Requirements

  • BA or MS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, or a related discipline.
  • 4+ years of experience in a data engineering-focused role.
  • Demonstrated experience designing data models at scale.
  • Experience building ETL pipelines to handle large volumes of data.
  • Experience with Spark-based data platforms.
  • Strong command of at least one data orchestration tool such as Airflow, Dagster, or Prefect.
  • Expertise in SQL, Python, and REST APIs.
  • Familiarity with software engineering fundamentals and reading backend development code.
  • Experience with version control systems such as Git or GitHub.
  • Preferred: familiarity with time series data and late-arriving data.
  • Preferred: knowledge of Databricks, Delta Lakes, and Dagster.
  • Preferred: previous experience working in a public cloud such as AWS, GCP, or Azure.
  • Preferred: exposure to a product data model using first-party data.
  • Preferred: exposure to complex data including ML outputs and/or client-side signals.
  • Must be based in Canada; relocation assistance is not provided.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary of CAD $135,575 to $159,500.
