Description

  • Lead the design and implementation of critical Safety AI initiatives, including real-time perception systems.
  • Architect end-to-end computer vision pipelines for object detection, tracking, semantic segmentation, multi-camera fusion, and related safety detection tasks.
  • Drive the technical roadmap for edge and cloud perception, including model optimization and deployment on constrained hardware.
  • Partner with hardware and firmware teams to co-design the full stack across devices and models.
  • Work with petabyte-scale multimodal data, including video, sensor, telematics, and diagnostics, to train and improve production models.
  • Translate cutting-edge computer vision and perception research into shipped product features.
  • Mentor and technically guide senior scientists and engineers across the team.
  • Translate customer and business needs into clear, solvable engineering problems.
  • Champion Samsara’s cultural principles as the team scales globally.

Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, Computer Vision, or a related quantitative field.
  • 10+ years of experience as a scientist or ML engineer.
  • Experience leading end-to-end AI systems in production.
  • Deep expertise in computer vision for real-world environments, including object detection, tracking, and segmentation.
  • Experience with multimodal perception and sensor fusion, such as camera, lidar, radar, and GPS/IMU.
  • Experience with transformer-based architectures and vision-language models (VLMs/VLAs).
  • Experience building and deploying real-time or edge ML systems optimized for low-latency inference.
  • Demonstrated ability to take systems from research through production deployment, including performance optimization and reliability at scale.
  • Experience applying perception to driver assistance, fleet safety, or operations automation is preferred.
  • Publications or patents at top-tier venues such as CVPR, ICCV, ICRA, or NeurIPS are preferred.
  • This is a remote position open to candidates residing in the US.

Benefits

  • Annual base salary range of $200,200 to $357,500 USD.
