Description

  • Lead and grow a team of engineers through hiring, coaching, performance management, and promotion decisions.
  • Own the catalog data model for products, variants, media, pricing, and availability on a high-scale shared infrastructure.
  • Design and evolve attribute architecture, including category-scoped schemas, multilingual values, and merchant-defined custom fields.
  • Maintain alignment between merchant category trees and the platform’s canonical taxonomy.
  • Drive data quality through completeness scoring, identifier coverage, and enrichment workflows.
  • Own faceted navigation, category listing performance, and sorting behavior for browse and filtration experiences.
  • Oversee the pipeline from product mutation to searchable documents, including event-driven updates, freshness SLAs, and zero-downtime reindexing.
  • Partner with the Search team on the index contract that supports relevance and query-side ranking.
  • Set the tech-debt roadmap and incident response practices using postmortems and engineering health metrics.
  • Collaborate closely with Product, Storefront, Search, and channel-feed teams to plan scope and sequencing.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in software engineering with 3+ years managing engineers.
  • Evidence of strong people leadership, including hiring, developing, promoting, and managing performance honestly.
  • Deep backend and relational database expertise at scale, including schema design, indexing strategy, query-plan analysis, and safe migrations on large hot tables.
  • Production ownership of search or discovery infrastructure such as OpenSearch, Elasticsearch, or Algolia.
  • Experience building catalog systems for e-commerce or marketplaces, including taxonomy design, variant and attribute modeling, and product feed ecosystems.
  • PHP/Laravel and MySQL experience preferred.
  • Multi-tenant SaaS experience preferred, including tenant isolation, per-tenant limits, and noisy-neighbor mitigation.
  • Arabic-language data awareness and RTL product thinking preferred.
  • Google Merchant Center and structured-data/SEO experience preferred.
  • Redis and edge caching experience for high-read paths, including invalidation design preferred.
