Description

  • Own the architecture, design, development, testing, and operation of RF systems for deep-space missions.
  • Develop link budgets and RF concepts for challenging, low-SNR, long-distance environments.
  • Work with ground stations such as DSN and KSAT through hardware bring-up, environmental qualification, integrated testing, and flight readiness.
  • Collaborate with avionics, optical communications, and spacecraft engineering teams to integrate the RF subsystem into the spacecraft bus.
  • Design for extreme space constraints including radiation effects, thermal extremes, vacuum operation, and tight mass and power budgets.
  • Select, design, and integrate RF components and front-end architectures including transmitters, receivers, LNAs, PAs, frequency sources, converters, and passive components.
  • Perform hands-on testing using RF lab equipment and integrated spacecraft or ground-station test setups.
  • Support live telemetry and commanding flow during integrated testing.
  • Communicate complex technical topics clearly across different disciplines.
  • Contribute to rapid iteration and end-to-end problem solving in a hardware-first environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in RF communication system architecture, analysis, and/or component engineering.
  • Experience with 3 or more of the following: RF architecture and link budgets for challenging environments; RF system selection, design, and/or integration; RF passive components such as filters, diplexers, couplers, and waveguide components; antenna design, analysis, and modeling tools; hands-on testing with RF lab equipment; hands-on integrated testing with ground stations and/or spacecraft RF systems.
  • Experience communicating deeply technical topics with people from different disciplines.
  • Experience with space environments, including radiation effects, thermal extremes, vacuum operation, and component derating (preferred).
  • Prior work with deep-space spacecraft communications system design and architecture (preferred).
  • Prior work with deep-space ground station networks (preferred).
  • Experience with high-gain antennas, phased arrays, or gimbaled antenna systems (preferred).
  • Experience designing or validating RF hardware for flight qualification, including TVAC, vibe, and EMI/EMC testing (preferred).
  • Bachelor’s degree in an engineering or science discipline related to the role.
