Description

  • Own and manage the company’s litigation and pre-litigation docket, including commercial disputes, medical malpractice claims, employment-related claims, and other general litigation matters.
  • Direct outside counsel strategy across multiple jurisdictions, including discovery, witness preparation, settlement evaluation, and trial readiness.
  • Conduct and manage internal investigations related to pending and threatened litigation and compliance issues.
  • Oversee litigation holds, document preservation, and e-discovery processes.
  • Track and report litigation matters, exposure, and budgets to the General Counsel.
  • Partner with operations teams to identify liability risks and implement process improvements that reduce exposure.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments affecting the business across the US, Canada, UK, and Australia.
  • Develop and deliver training for managers and clinical staff on litigation prevention and regulatory compliance topics.
  • Serve as primary legal advisor to the People & Culture team on employee relations matters, including performance management, workplace investigations, discipline, accommodations, and separations.
  • Draft, review, and update employment policies and handbooks across all jurisdictions where the company operates.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school or equivalent legal qualification from a jurisdiction where the company operates.
  • Active bar membership in good standing in at least one US state.
  • 7+ years of legal experience in litigation and employment law.
  • Healthcare liability experience is required.
  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience is preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience managing outside counsel, including strategy, budget, and performance.
  • Experience advising on employee relations matters, conducting or overseeing workplace investigations, and drafting employment policies.
  • Sound judgment in assessing risk and knowing when to escalate issues.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills with the ability to translate legal concepts into clear guidance for non-legal stakeholders.
  • Comfort operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment with meaningful ambiguity.
