Description

  • Lead, mentor, and grow a team of backend and machine learning engineers.
  • Drive technical direction for advanced signals, integrations, and systems across Discovery, Ads, and Growth.
  • Set a long-term technical vision for content distribution and recommender systems.
  • Serve as the bridge between content acquisition and recommendation teams.
  • Manage project execution, roadmap planning, technical decisions, risk mitigation, and stakeholder communication.
  • Guide the team through building large-scale ML systems, candidate generators, features, and models for fresh content distribution.
  • Help define approaches to predict user engagement and determine which new content will inspire Pinners.
  • Support efforts to identify and reduce bias in recommendation systems.
  • Design and evaluate experiments to measure the impact of content acquisition changes on user experience.
  • Improve content understanding workflows, including enhancing titles for new content to increase engagement.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of industry experience, including 2+ years of management experience.
  • Experience developing and deploying large-scale machine learning systems in search and recommendations.
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Hadoop and Spark.
  • Experience with scalable real-time stream processing systems such as Kafka and Flink.
  • Experience applying NLP models and LLMs to content understanding and recommendation systems.
  • Experience building and leading high-performing teams within a visible business vertical.
  • Experience working with multiple cross-functional partners to drive shared initiatives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Experience using Cursor, Copilot, Codex, or similar AI coding assistants for development, debugging, testing, and refactoring.
  • Familiarity with LLM-powered productivity tools for documentation search, experiment analysis, SQL/data exploration, and workflow acceleration.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $189,308 to $389,753 USD for US-based applicants.
  • Eligible for equity.
  • Remote-friendly working model with in-office collaboration 1-2 times per quarter.
