Description

  • Design and plan outside plant facilities for copper and fiber infrastructure, including aerial, buried, and conduit systems.
  • Prepare and review engineering drawings, loop loss calculations, and switch serving area designs.
  • Conduct field measurements and site surveys to support network design and project planning.
  • Develop project budgets, monitor actual costs, and perform job inspections for quality assurance.
  • Prepare, organize, and submit permit packages to agencies such as townships, counties, states, DNR, railroads, and pipelines.
  • Ensure designs comply with permitting requirements, engineering standards, and company procedures.
  • Meet with municipal and government officials to coordinate road projects and related field work.
  • Collaborate with utilities, SSP contractors, and cross-functional teams to coordinate relocations, reduce conflicts, and avoid delays.
  • Support service orders, subdivision expansions, road relocations, dark fiber MDUs, make-ready work, and joint-use coordination.
  • Maintain engineering records, update departmental documentation, and draft correspondence and support reports.

Requirements

  • 3–5+ years of hands-on experience in copper and fiber optic network engineering.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in network engineering or OSP-related work, including permitting and fiber record management.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Proficiency with FROGS, Varasset, and SiteTracker.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills with municipal officials, utility companies, contractors, and cross-functional teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of permitting procedures and OSP construction practices.
  • Willingness to travel locally for fieldwork and meetings; mileage is reimbursed.
  • Preferred candidates located in the Pacific Standard Time (PST) zone, with Mountain Standard Time (MST) candidates also considered.
