Description

  • Set up and operate a FARO Vantage laser tracker, including tripod, extension, leveling, warm-up, and stable lock on SMRs.
  • Survey and shim the robot transfer unit rail to within tolerance and re-survey to confirm level.
  • Align positioner headstocks and tailstocks and capture before-and-after alignment data.
  • Establish robot base coordinate systems in Polyworks Inspector and verify orientation conventions.
  • Run RoboDK robot calibration for welder and scanner robots, including measurement sets and validation poses.
  • Capture RTU and positioner or rail-axis data using Polyworks macros.
  • Generate, clean, and export coordinate-system and reference-point reports and CSV tables at high decimal precision.
  • Run Python-based calibration error checks, compare results to RoboDK norms, and flag deviations.
  • Assemble and upload per-cell calibration data packages in the required file formats and naming convention.
  • Walk bring-up engineers through the data package, obtain written acceptance, and tear down and pack out.
  • Identify recurring fixturing, build, or alignment issues and feed them back through the ECR process.
  • Maintain tracker calibration certificates, SMRs, cabling, and laptop images, and proactively flag re-calibration needs.
  • Mentor junior technicians and support team growth.

Requirements

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with a FARO laser tracker such as Vantage, Ion, or equivalent in a manufacturing or contract-metrology environment.
  • Working proficiency with Polyworks Inspector, including running and modifying macros and generating or editing inspection reports.
  • Practical understanding of dimensional metrology fundamentals, including GD&T, coordinate systems, alignment, datum structures, and measurement uncertainty.
  • Comfort working alongside an industrial six-axis robot in teach mode, including basic teach-pendant navigation.
  • Disciplined documentation and file-management practices, including adherence to naming conventions.
  • Comfort working in PPE in an active manufacturing environment.
  • RoboDK robot calibration experience, including geometric DH calibration and validation workflows, preferred.
  • Yaskawa or other industrial robot teach-pendant familiarity, preferred.
  • Python scripting experience for automation, preferred.
  • 3D CAD experience with SolidWorks and converting CAD models into RoboDK stations, preferred.
  • Experience with multiple tracker platforms such as Leica or Hexagon, or with photogrammetry systems, preferred.
  • Manufacturer training certificates from FARO, InnovMetric, or RoboDK, preferred.
  • Experience writing or editing Confluence procedure pages, work instructions, or training materials, preferred.
