Description

  • Design, fabricate, and assemble flight-ready prototypes, including folding structures, deployment mechanisms, and integrated avionics bays.
  • Modify airframes and build custom electrical wiring harnesses to support rapid iteration across the developmental drone fleet.
  • Integrate and configure flight control platforms such as PX4 or ArduPilot, flash firmware, calibrate sensors, and troubleshoot anomalies during testing.
  • Plan and execute functional and lifetime field test campaigns, using telemetry data to refine CAD models and mature prototypes through iteration.
  • Collaborate with design and test engineers to identify integration risks early and deliver targeted hardware solutions.
  • Own the full build cycle from concept through field testing and keep developmental platforms operational and ready for flight.
  • Develop custom hardware solutions to resolve integration bottlenecks and sustain schedule progress.
  • Work with incomplete or evolving designs and translate them into testable hardware on short timescales.

Requirements

  • Experience taking unmanned aerial systems or other highly complex mechanical or robotic systems from concept through physical assembly to field testing.
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD, such as SolidWorks/PDM or Siemens NX/Teamcenter.
  • Applied structural validation experience, including FEA, for aerospace or UAV hardware.
  • Solid understanding of GD&T.
  • Hands-on workshop fabrication experience with composites, metals, 3D printers, precision hand tools, and soldering stations.
  • Practical experience integrating and troubleshooting flight control platforms, payload electronics, and power distribution systems.
  • Comfort working with incomplete documentation and evolving requirements while taking end-to-end ownership of outcomes.
  • Practical background flying, testing, and operating drones in field environments, including multicopter, fixed-wing, or FPV platforms, is preferred.
  • Familiarity with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test environments and automated telemetry or data-logging hardware is preferred.
  • Hands-on knowledge of structural composites, including carbon fibre layup and vacuum bagging, is preferred.
