Description

  • Own the architecture of the data lakehouse, including build-vs-buy decisions, technical design, and implementation leadership.
  • Design and build lakehouse infrastructure that powers downstream AI and analytics products.
  • Write production Python code for critical data pipelines and infrastructure components.
  • Set engineering standards for code quality, testing, observability, and documentation.
  • Mentor Data Engineers through code reviews, 1:1s, and technical guidance.
  • Partner with Product to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Design data governance systems for lineage, cataloging, and compliance with government security standards.
  • Lead implementation of data platform components and ensure they operate reliably in production.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • 2+ years of experience leading technical teams or architecture.
  • Expert-level Python experience, including PySpark and pandas.
  • Strong SQL skills and deep understanding of lakehouse patterns and data modeling.
  • Experience with streaming systems such as Kafka.
  • Experience with batch processing using Spark.
  • Experience with modern table formats such as Hudi, Iceberg, or Delta.
  • Track record of building and operating large-scale data platforms in production.
  • Eligibility to work in Germany.
  • EU/NATO citizenship preferred for export-control work.
  • German language ability at B1+ level is a nice to have.
  • Experience with defense or government data environments is a nice to have.
  • Experience with graph databases is a nice to have.
  • Experience with ML infrastructure is a nice to have.
