Description

Develop and own the design of complex mechanical components and subsystems within the reactor module.
Collaborate cross-functionally to define design and functional requirements and ensure compliance with safety regulations and industry codes such as ASME BPVC.
Use CAD tools to translate functional requirements into robust designs that meet structural, thermal, and integration constraints.
Conduct and participate in design reviews and exchange technical feedback.
Evaluate mechanical designs to identify deficiencies and propose and implement improvements.
Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and bills of materials in controlled PDM/PLM systems.
Coordinate with analysis teams to guide and interpret thermal, structural, fatigue, and safety analyses for design validation.
Perform manufacturability reviews, tolerance studies, and DFM/DFA assessments to prepare components for fabrication and assembly.
Write and maintain engineering documentation, including design rationales, requirements, historical design reviews, and system architecture descriptions.
Work with fabrication partners, consultants, and engineering firms to support practical production, high-fidelity analysis, and ASME code compliance.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree or higher in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
8+ years of industry experience in mechanical or structural design in sectors such as aerospace, automotive, energy, or industrial equipment.
Proficiency in 3D CAD modeling software such as Siemens NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks, including part modeling, large assemblies, and detailed drawings.
Experience with design control using PDM/PLM tools such as Siemens Teamcenter, SolidWorks PDM, or Windchill.
Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, including DFM, DFA, and tolerance stack-up analysis.
Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings using GD&T in line with ASME Y14.5 or similar standards.
Working knowledge of material selection, especially metals, manufacturing methods, and fabrication techniques.
Demonstrated ability to collaborate on cross-functional teams and integrate feedback from analysis, manufacturing, and systems engineering.
Strong written and verbal communication skills for documenting and presenting engineering work.
Preferred: Experience designing large structural weldments and mechanical joints.
Preferred: Familiarity with the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, especially Sections III or VIII.
Preferred: Background designing components for high-integrity or safety-critical systems such as nuclear, aerospace, defense, or heavy industry.
Preferred: Proven ability to lead hardware projects through the full development cycle from concept and design to testing and production.
Preferred: Comfort working with external manufacturers and engineering consultants for fabrication and analysis support.
Preferred: Knowledge of large-scale fabrication techniques and transportation or handling of large components.
Preferred: Understanding of thermal-mechanical analysis principles and experience designing for high-temperature environments.
Preferred: Basic knowledge of nuclear fission and radiation effects on materials and components.
Must be eligible as a U.S. person under applicable export control laws.

Salary range of $125,000 to $165,000.
