Description

  • Verify test requisitions against nursing station logs and report discrepancies to unit personnel.
  • Confirm patient identity before specimen collection.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipuncture and finger sticks.
  • Maintain specimen integrity using aseptic technique and required isolation procedures.
  • Track specimen collection by documenting initials, dates, times, and daily collection tallies.
  • Maintain quality-control records and report needed changes or issues.
  • Keep the work environment safe and compliant with applicable standards, procedures, and regulations.
  • Resolve unusual test orders by coordinating with physicians, pathologists, nursing staff, or reference laboratories.
  • Complete required HIPAA/PHI, policy compliance, security, and Natera training within the required timeframe.
  • Manage logistical tasks such as printing patient reports, answering or triaging billing questions, and scheduling courier pickups.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certificate if required by the state.
  • BS/BA degree preferred.
  • Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.
  • Must work with PHI in both paper and electronic forms and use technology to access it.
  • Must complete HIPAA/PHI privacy, policy compliance, and security training within the first 30 days of hire.
  • Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
  • Work in an office setting and wear scrubs.
  • Ability to track each blood draw as part of the role.
