Description

  • Verify test requisitions against nursing station logs and report discrepancies to unit personnel.
  • Verify patient identity before collecting specimens.
  • Collect blood specimens through venipunctures and finger sticks.
  • Prepare and maintain specimen integrity using aseptic and isolation procedures.
  • Track specimen collection by labeling, dating, time-stamping, and maintaining daily collection tallies.
  • Maintain quality control records and report needed changes.
  • Keep the work environment safe, secure, and compliant with applicable standards and regulations.
  • Resolve unusual test orders by coordinating with physicians, pathologists, nursing staff, or reference laboratories.
  • Complete required HIPAA/PHI, compliance, security, and Natera training within required timeframes.
  • Handle logistical tasks such as printing patient reports, answering billing questions, and scheduling courier pickups.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of phlebotomy experience.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Phlebotomy certificate if required by the state.
  • BS/BA degree preferred.
  • Ability to adhere to professional standards, hospital policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements, and JCAHO standards.
  • Must maintain current status on Natera training requirements.
  • Ability to work in an office setting with scrubs required.
  • Role requires tracking of each draw.
  • Experience working with PHI in paper and electronic form and using systems that access PHI.
