Description

  • Lead a DevOps team to develop, test, deploy, maintain, and update DSPE data, cloud, automation, and analytics platforms.
  • Manage the team to ensure timely delivery of software products and systems with correct and robust functionality.
  • Train and coach team members on new technologies, procedures, and best practices.
  • Create and maintain operational visibility into team workload, productivity, and related metrics.
  • Translate business needs and project requirements into technical specifications and implementation plans.
  • Create system architecture and infrastructure design documents with DSPE leadership.
  • Maintain and optimize infrastructure performance by monitoring system metrics such as network I/O, disk I/O, memory allocation, and compute utilization.
  • Contribute to development, testing, deployment, validation, maintenance, and update activities.
  • Improve and enforce procedures for efficiency, quality, and compliance.
  • Lead creation and maintenance of technical documentation, including design specs, V&V protocols and reports, deployment records, and user guides.
  • Create training materials and support training activities for DSPE DevOps-owned systems.
  • Engage with engineering and operational stakeholders to align roadmaps, resolve dependencies, and report performance metrics.
  • Represent the DSPE DevOps team in stakeholder meetings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
  • 10+ years of relevant industry experience with a bachelor's degree, 8+ years with a master's degree, or 4+ years with a doctorate.
  • 3+ years of experience working in a highly regulated environment such as CLIA and/or FDA-compliant settings.
  • 3+ years of management experience leading a DevOps team or software development team.
  • Experience designing, delivering, and maintaining custom-developed software tools or systems in production, preferably in high-throughput environments.
  • Experience creating software design specifications, verification and validation documents, and user manuals.
  • Strong Python programming skills with cloud application and/or automation system development experience.
  • Proficiency with PostgreSQL and/or MySQL and production database application development.
  • Knowledge of system architecture optimization for performance, scalability, and reliability.
  • Understanding of performance evaluation methods and the impact of RAM, disk I/O, and network I/O on system performance.
  • Proficiency with AWS and production software development using AWS services.
  • Proficiency in SDLC and software development/testing methodologies.
  • Strong Linux command-line skills and Linux application development experience.
  • Experience with genomics and bioinformatics technologies and genomics data such as FASTQ, BAM, and VCF files.
  • Proficiency with Git workflow and version control systems such as GitHub and/or GitLab.
  • Experience developing automation solutions.
  • Preferred: IaC experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, and/or Ansible.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, integrity, and ability to work as a team player.
