Description

  • Assist certified and licensed personnel with clinical patient testing in accordance with SOPs.
  • Perform histological preparations for the tissue whole exome sequencing laboratory with minimal errors.
  • Prepare tissues, stained slides, and macrodissection materials, and support related workflow tasks.
  • Set up equipment and assist with automated laboratory procedures as needed.
  • Complete daily laboratory tasks and support overall lab operations.
  • Maintain equipment and instruments in good operating condition.
  • Track and maintain adequate inventory of laboratory materials, supplies, and equipment.
  • Document information accurately and in accordance with Good Documentation Practices (GDP).
  • Provide guidance and training to new team members and act as a super user for specialized instruments or protocols.
  • Identify, escalate, and help resolve stuck cases and unresolved issues.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of related experience.
  • Associate's degree or higher in a histotechnician program, or an associate's degree or higher in chemical or biological sciences with 1 year of histology experience/training within the past 5 years.
  • Completion of at least a nine-month histotechnician training program, or a bachelor's degree or higher in chemical or biological sciences with 30 hours in biology and chemistry plus 1 year of histology experience/training within the past 5 years or a nine-month training program.
  • A copy of the degree is required at the time of hire, and the degree must be from the U.S. or equivalent to a U.S. degree.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, computer, and technical skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with word processing and data management.
  • Ability to work well in a group.
  • Ability to adhere to the department's time and attendance guidelines.
  • Experience in a BSL-2 laboratory environment with potentially hazardous material is relevant given the work setting.
