Description

  • Work with the Data Science Production Engineering team to design and develop a Genomics Data System.
  • Develop genomics data file retrieval and archive solutions from sources and platforms such as DNAnexus and AWS HealthOmics.
  • Develop databases to record and manage genomics file metadata.
  • Build automation solutions for genomics data file retrieval and metadata management.
  • Test, deploy, and maintain the genomics data system and related tools.
  • Write technical documentation for the systems and workflows developed.
  • Provide training and technical support to other team members.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Bioinformatics, or a related field; advanced degrees preferred.
  • 7+ years of relevant industry experience with a bachelor’s degree, 5+ years with a master’s degree, or 3+ years with a doctorate.
  • Strong Python programming skills with cloud application and/or automation system development experience.
  • Experience with RDBMS systems such as PostgreSQL and/or MySQL, including database-based application development.
  • Proficient Linux command-line skills with prior Linux application development experience.
  • Familiarity with AWS services and prior hands-on experience using AWS.
  • Working knowledge of genomics data formats such as FASTQ, BAM, and VCF files.
  • Familiarity with Git workflows and version control systems such as GitHub and/or GitLab.
  • Understanding of system/tool performance evaluation, including the impact of RAM, disk I/O, and network I/O.
  • Past experience developing automation solutions.
  • Familiarity with SDLC and software development/testing methodologies.
  • Good documentation practices and coding style.
  • Preferred but not required: Infrastructure as Code experience with CloudFormation, Terraform, and/or Ansible.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Strong integrity and a team-oriented mindset.
