Description

  • Lead the migration and modernization of a large legacy Java application.
  • Upgrade Java versions, modernize the framework stack, and migrate from javax to jakarta.
  • Upgrade dependencies and remediate security vulnerabilities.
  • Analyze and refactor legacy code while preserving business-critical functionality.
  • Create unit and integration tests for existing functionality.
  • Support regression testing activities throughout the modernization effort.
  • Collaborate closely with the customer’s technical stakeholders.
  • Deliver early security improvements and test coverage for critical business flows.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of commercial Java experience.
  • Proven experience with Struts 1.x.
  • Experience with Java version upgrades or framework migration projects.
  • Strong knowledge of Apache Tomcat and Linux environments.
  • Experience with Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle databases.
  • Solid understanding of JDBC and stored procedures.
  • Experience testing and maintaining legacy applications.
  • Strong problem-solving and debugging skills.
  • Fluent written and spoken English.
  • Based in the EU.
  • Experience with AI-assisted migration tools such as OpenRewrite, GitHub Copilot, Claude, or Gemini (preferred).
  • Knowledge of XSLT/XML transformations, Ant-to-Maven or Gradle migrations, Azure DevOps, or large monolithic enterprise applications (preferred).
