Description

  • Lead the engineering of the game and turn design vision into working gameplay systems.
  • Spend the vast majority of time directly building, prototyping, and implementing features.
  • Own the technical strategy and roadmap from prototyping to production-ready pipelines.
  • Decide when to build, buy, outsource, or adopt new technologies to maintain momentum and long-term leverage.
  • Establish and maintain technical infrastructure such as source control, build servers, and build pipelines.
  • Create reliable, performant, maintainable codebases that support fast iteration and experimentation.
  • Collaborate closely with Design, Art, and Production to keep ideas moving smoothly into development.
  • Recruit, manage, mentor, and eventually grow a small engineering team and contractor network.
  • Help foster a collaborative, player-focused development process across disciplines.
  • Support clear feedback loops through data, playtesting, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • Proven experience as a Technical Director, Lead Engineer, Principal Engineer, or similar leadership role on shipped games.
  • Experience working on simulation games, ideally in the simulation genre.
  • Strong background in Unreal Engine.
  • Deep understanding of scalable, systemic architectures.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping, optimization, and live iteration workflows.
  • Comfort leading small teams and mentoring across disciplines.
  • Pragmatic approach to technology with a focus on game impact and player value.
  • Experience integrating technologies and third-party assets to accelerate development.
  • Passion for simulation games and for using technology to improve player delight.
  • Must be located within a UK or EU timezone.
