Description

  • Lead the architectural evolution of the core recommendations pipeline into a modern distributed architecture while maintaining production stability.
  • Design, build, and operate scalable, fault-tolerant backend services for content selection, send-time optimization, subject-line personalization, and frequency capping.
  • Identify and resolve system performance bottlenecks, reliability risks, and scaling limitations.
  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers and product stakeholders to turn requirements into production-ready technical designs.
  • Own critical system components from architecture and implementation through deployment, monitoring, and incident response.
  • Champion best practices in system design, code quality, testing, observability, and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineers and foster technical rigor, ownership, and continuous improvement.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience focused on distributed systems.
  • Experience building and operating large-scale, fault-tolerant, highly available, and highly concurrent distributed systems.
  • Strong Python foundation.
  • Expertise in system design, unit testing, Git, code review, and CI/CD.
  • Understanding of consensus, partitioning, replication, back-pressure, idempotency, and failure handling.
  • Experience with a cloud provider such as AWS, Azure, or GCP; Google Cloud Platform experience is relevant.
  • Experience with distributed and microservice technologies such as Kubernetes, Kafka, and gRPC.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD and automated deployment tools, including Docker, Kubernetes, and GitHub Actions.
  • Strong technical leadership, collaboration, architectural advocacy, mentoring, and production problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with distributed data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Flink, or Beam; hands-on Spark experience is preferred.

Benefits

  • Base salary range of $143,000–$200,000 CAD per year.
  • Additional bonus eligibility depending on the position offered.
