Description

  • Own end-to-end COGS and gross margin analysis for Motive’s hardware and software product lines, including vehicle gateways, dashcams, and software products.
  • Model cost-saving opportunities, build scenario analyses, and recommend profitability levers to CPO, CTO, and finance leadership.
  • Translate ambiguous, high-stakes business questions from senior stakeholders into structured analyses and clear executive points of view.
  • Partner with data engineering, finance, and product teams to identify cost drivers, surface insights, and influence roadmap and investment decisions.
  • Navigate messy and complex data environments by establishing ground truth, validating data, and building reliable analytical datasets.
  • Create durable analytical frameworks that the broader team can reuse and build upon.
  • Contribute to team operational rigor through documentation, version control practices, and analytical best practices.
  • Operate with minimal supervision and manage priorities independently.
  • Support the evolution of the role toward future team leadership responsibilities.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in analytics, strategic finance, or a closely related field, with depth in financial or operational modeling.
  • Expert-level SQL and the ability to write complex queries independently.
  • Deep understanding of unit economics, including gross margin, contribution margin, COGS structures, cost drivers, and scenario modeling.
  • Proven ability to frame and decompose ambiguous business problems independently.
  • Strong executive communication skills with experience presenting findings and a clear POV to VP- or C-suite stakeholders.
  • High autonomy and self-sufficiency in fast-moving environments with shifting priorities and incomplete context.
  • Experience working in messy data environments and establishing definitions, validating data quality, and building from the ground up.
  • Experience with hardware and software combination products such as IoT, fleet technology, or consumer electronics, and how COGS differs from pure SaaS (preferred).
  • Python for analysis and automation (preferred).
  • Experience with a modern analytics stack such as dbt or Airflow, or similar tools (preferred).
  • Background in strategic finance, FP&A, or management consulting with a strong technical layer (preferred).
  • Authorization to receive and access commodities and technologies controlled under U.S. Export Administration Regulations.
