Description

  • Lead work on components that enable communication between cooperating distributed processes and make those processes and their communication observable.
  • Improve MongoDB networking performance, efficiency of resource utilization, and low-overhead observability features.
  • Operate close to the bottom of the stack to influence database performance, robustness, and engineering productivity.
  • Build and evaluate proof-of-concepts and performance tests for new networking architecture directions.
  • Integrate OpenTelemetry to speed up investigation of issues and performance bottlenecks in tests.
  • Collaborate with cross-team stakeholders to deliver and deploy product changes.
  • Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a strong engineering culture.
  • Reason about how design choices affect system behavior in a distributed database like MongoDB.
  • Estimate project cost and complexity and manage work effectively across projects.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience building distributed systems.
  • Experience delivering and deploying products with cross-team stakeholders.
  • Experience building production-level code for a large user base with strong design structure and rigorous code quality.
  • C++ experience is required.
  • Strong understanding of modern computer architecture and internals.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate closely with colleagues and mentor junior engineers.
  • Strong time and project management skills, including realistic assessment of project cost and complexity.
  • Good computer networking fundamentals and a desire to improve them.
  • Demonstrated industry success or academic research in high-performance / low-latency networking, performance tuning, or high-performance distributed and concurrent systems.

  • Base salary range of $173,000 to $297,000 USD for U.S.-based candidates.
