Description

  • Design computational biology problems that challenge a frontier AI model and require a specialized tool to solve.
  • Create problems with answers that can be verified programmatically by code.
  • Select an anchor tool and build tasks around its biophysical models, ODE/PDE systems, biomechanical formulations, or sequence algorithms.
  • Write Python reference solutions and provide input files or model/network definitions as needed.
  • Determine the correct numerical answer and set an appropriate domain-specific tolerance for scoring.
  • Test and refine tasks in batches of parallel attempts to achieve a target pass rate of 10–30%.
  • Adjust problem difficulty by rewriting kinetics, tightening stimulation protocols, and tuning solver tolerances.
  • Submit calibrated tasks for senior review and incorporate feedback to ensure high task quality.
  • Observe how models perform and use those results to improve future task design.

Requirements

  • Degree in Biology or a related field.
  • 2+ years of research, applied, or teaching experience.
  • Python proficiency for writing reference solutions.
  • Fluency with, or strong willingness to independently learn, at least one scriptable computational biology package such as NEURON, Brian2, NEST, OpenSim, AMICI, libroadrunner, MNE-Python, or Biopython.
  • Ability to design problems that genuinely require a specialized solver.
  • Strong written English proficiency at C1 level or higher.
  • Open to part-time, non-permanent project work.
  • Willingness to learn independently and get up to speed quickly if you do not already know the listed tools.
