Description

  • Serve as the primary contact for inbound patient calls and outbound follow-up related to open clinical requests.
  • Answer patient questions about prescriptions, pharmacy status, prior authorizations, lab and imaging orders, and referrals.
  • Review patient charts in the EHR to determine the status of orders, prescriptions, and referrals.
  • Document patient interactions, requests, and follow-ups accurately in the EHR.
  • Route clinical tasks to Medical Assistants, RNs, or providers according to escalation protocols.
  • Track outstanding requests and follow up to ensure timely resolution.
  • Use approved scripts and workflows to provide clear, empathetic patient communication.
  • Maintain adherence to HIPAA and PHI handling requirements.
  • Participate in training, QA reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Surface recurring patient issues, bottlenecks, and workflow gaps to leadership.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience in a healthcare contact center, medical office, or clinical operations environment.
  • Experience working with EHR systems, with Athenahealth strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of outpatient healthcare workflows, including prescriptions, labs, referrals, and prior authorizations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • High attention to detail and ability to follow structured workflows.
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment with reliable internet and a private workspace.
  • Medical Assistant background or equivalent outpatient clinical experience preferred.
  • Experience supporting prior authorizations, referrals, or pharmacy coordination preferred.
  • Experience with Zendesk or a similar contact center platform preferred.
  • Telehealth or virtual care experience preferred.
  • Authorized to work in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship needs.
