Description

  • Own the Product & Regulatory legal remit across Mews’ SaaS and fintech environment, setting priorities, operating norms, and the quality bar for legal support.
  • Embed with Product and Engineering as a hands-on product counsel, identifying and resolving legal, regulatory, and commercial trade-offs early in the release lifecycle.
  • Provide senior legal guidance on regulated product design, launch, and scaling, including payments, embedded finance, money transmission, partner-bank, and BaaS models.
  • Serve as the senior legal point person for product-related regulatory matters across the business.
  • Build and manage a small specialist pod of counsel and paralegals as the work grows.
  • Coach the team and create playbooks, templates, and working norms that help teams move faster without adding risk.
  • Use AI to redesign how legal support is delivered into product development, improving speed, quality, and consistency.
  • Surface, triage, and escalate legal and regulatory issues across product development and release cycles.
  • Support sound legal and regulatory decisions for regulated and non-regulated products in a fast-scaling environment.

Requirements

  • Significant in-house legal experience in technology, SaaS, or fintech.
  • Strong evidence of working closely with product teams rather than reviewing work after the fact.
  • Strong fintech and regulatory exposure, ideally in payments, embedded finance, or money transmission.
  • Experience releasing regulated products and handling partner-bank or BaaS models.
  • Working knowledge of financial-crime regulation, including AML, BSA, KYC, and KYB.
  • Experience with supervisory expectations, audits, investigations, or regulatory change.
  • A hands-on builder mentality with examples of processes, guidance, or tooling you have created.
  • Sound commercial judgment that balances legal risk with business outcomes.
  • People-leadership experience, ideally managing lawyers and/or paralegals.
  • AI Fluency Level 3 or equivalent hands-on experience using AI in day-to-day legal work.
  • Experience acting as true product counsel rather than purely commercial counsel (preferred).
  • Experience in earlier-stage or scaling environments rather than highly siloed large-enterprise settings (preferred).
  • Experience leading a regional or specialist legal team while staying close to product and business execution (preferred).
  • Location in the US, UK, or EU considered.

Benefits

  • UK salary band of £105,000 to £190,000 GBP.
  • Unlimited paid holiday.
  • Participation in the company share program.
  • Paid parental leave, including 6 months fully paid for primary caregivers and 2 months for secondary caregivers after one year of service.
  • Annual learning budget of €300, with more for high performers.
  • Monthly EDGE time to Explore, Develop, Grow, and Elevate.
  • Work-from-anywhere policy with flexibility to work abroad for a few weeks each year.
  • Flexible hybrid working options.
  • Home office setup budget plus a monthly work-from-home allowance.
  • Claude tokens to help automate workflows.
  • Local benefits such as healthcare, retirement plans, team events, and socials depending on location.
