Description

  • Design and implement flight controls for the aircraft automation system.
  • Decompose system requirements into low-level flight controls requirements.
  • Develop and use simulation tools for flight controls development and testing.
  • Build and analyze control law models in Simulink, MATLAB, and Python.
  • Participate in flight testing for system identification and control law verification across multiple aircraft types.
  • Own the flight control system end-to-end and support product delivery to programs and customers.
  • Collaborate across Merlin to develop novel, certifiable aviation autonomy systems.

Requirements

  • BS in Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience developing control systems for fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Strong understanding of fixed-wing aircraft dynamics and classical/modern control design and analysis.
  • Experience decomposing system requirements into outer-loop and inner-loop control requirements.
  • Experience in model-based development and certification of flight control systems.
  • Proficiency with MATLAB/Simulink or another model-based development toolset.
  • Experience designing, implementing, and testing software for real-time systems.
  • Experience with linear model development, linear analysis, and frequency-domain gain tuning techniques.
  • MS/PhD in Aerospace Engineering and/or Controls (preferred).
  • Experience developing never-before-flown control systems (preferred).
  • Experience extracting linear state-space models from flight test data (preferred).
  • Experience working directly with customers and representing a company (preferred).
  • Pilot license (preferred).
  • Proficiency in C/C++ or Python (preferred).
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without visa sponsorship now or in the future.
