Description

  • Lead the vision, strategy, and technical roadmap for the Behavior & Controls team.
  • Serve as a technical thought leader and align autonomy strategy with executive leadership.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Autonomy, Vehicle Engineering, Software, Data and Infrastructure, and Operations teams.
  • Advance MPDM technology through data-driven policies, improved simulations, reward functions, policies, and control algorithms.
  • Ensure core MPDM technologies operate effectively in commercial deployments and support issue triage and resolution.
  • Maintain awareness of research in planning, autonomous decision making, and machine learning, including reinforcement learning.
  • Develop and track KPIs for autonomy performance.
  • Build and execute a roadmap for key autonomy challenges and synchronize it with other function roadmaps.
  • Interview, hire, and manage a diverse team of engineers and scientists.
  • Escalate critical team issues and provide recommendations aligned with company priorities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering in a highly technical field or equivalent experience.
  • 7+ years of software-focused engineering experience solving challenging robotics problems in mission-critical software or robotic systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve complex autonomy problems in a principal investigator, staff/principal engineer, director, or equivalent role.
  • Experience leading a team of 10+ engineers, including goal setting and handling challenging situations and failures.
  • Previous experience as an individual contributor developing and deploying innovative solutions in autonomous vehicles or a related space.
  • PhD or master's degree in a relevant technical field is preferred.
  • 5+ years of management experience is preferred.
  • Experience developing and/or using MPDM is preferred.
  • Deep understanding of autonomous vehicle challenges and the state of the art in autonomy is preferred.
  • Ability to work in standard office conditions and travel minimally (1%-10%).
