Description

  • Draft, review, and negotiate commercial and supplier agreements across hardware, software, services, joint development, and partnerships.
  • Develop and maintain playbooks, templates, and negotiation guidelines for the legal team.
  • Design, implement, and maintain compliance programs and policies covering privacy, safety, regulatory obligations, and governance.
  • Provide day-to-day legal counsel to teams across engineering, operations, business development, government affairs, marketing, and human resources.
  • Advise on regulatory matters related to autonomous vehicle testing, deployment, and commercialization at the federal, state, and local levels.
  • Manage outside counsel and coordinate with external advisors on litigation, IP, and regulatory filings.
  • Monitor evolving laws and regulations affecting AVs, transportation, privacy, and employment, and translate impacts for leadership.
  • Develop and deliver training on legal compliance, contracting best practices, and risk management.
  • Assist with corporate transactions, equity matters, and board-related activities as needed.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing with at least one U.S. state bar.
  • 5–8 years of legal experience, with a mix of law firm and in-house counsel experience.
  • Experience at a technology, automotive, or mobility company is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex commercial and supplier agreements.
  • Experience developing or managing compliance programs, policies, or internal controls.
  • Substantive expertise in at least one of: regulatory affairs, safety/product liability, data privacy (including CCPA, CPRA, APPI, GDPR), or employment law.
  • Strong business judgment with the ability to balance legal risk against operational objectives in a fast-moving environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills for non-legal audiences.
  • Preferred experience in the autonomous vehicle, automotive, robotics, or advanced transportation technology sector.
  • Familiarity with NHTSA regulations, FMVSS standards, state AV legislation, or related safety frameworks.
  • Experience advising on connected/autonomous vehicle privacy issues, including geolocation data, telematics, and rider data.
  • Background in government affairs, public policy, or work with agencies such as DOT, NHTSA, or state DMVs.
  • Experience supporting high-growth companies, including Series C/D and beyond.
  • CIPP/US, CIPP/E, or another privacy certification.
