Description

  • Improve search retrieval and ranking so users can find relevant materials and discover new ones.
  • Build recommendation systems from the ground up and determine what to surface, when, and where.
  • Explore behavioral and catalog data to identify the best approaches for the business and domain.
  • Apply query understanding techniques to improve parsing, intent recognition, and semantic search for complex queries.
  • Identify catalog and data quality issues that affect search and recommendation relevance and help resolve them.
  • Prototype formulas, models, and re-ranking approaches and iterate quickly on working versions.
  • Evaluate image-based search and color matching approaches, including perceptual color methods.
  • Build and extend evaluation frameworks, success metrics, and experiments to measure impact.
  • Partner with engineering, product, and catalog teams to turn research into production improvements.

Requirements

  • Track record building search, recommendation, or ranking systems that shipped to real users and improved results.
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field such as computer science, machine learning, statistics, or applied math, or equivalent hands-on experience.
  • Deep understanding of search and recommendation systems, especially retrieval, ranking, and relevance.
  • Strong query understanding and NLP experience, including semantic and embedding-based retrieval.
  • Experience with statistical modeling, experimental design, and hypothesis testing.
  • Hands-on ability to prototype and implement your own ideas; language preference is not specified.
  • Some experience deploying ML or data systems to production, or working closely with teams that do.
  • Experience with multimodal or image-based search and color/perceptual science is preferred.
  • E-commerce or marketplace search and recommendations experience is preferred.
  • Experience managing vendor and in-house systems together is preferred.
