Description

  • Own the lakehouse and streaming ingestion platform that feeds it.
  • Design and build abstractions, tooling, and paved paths for internal teams to land data, build pipelines, and publish datasets.
  • Set multi-year technical direction for the data platform and help define the engineering roadmap.
  • Write production code for the platform's hardest problems and deliver work end-to-end.
  • Lead design reviews and establish the engineering bar through hands-on technical work.
  • Modernize and harden live production infrastructure without disrupting dependent teams.
  • Improve reliability, performance, developer experience, testing confidence, and release velocity.
  • Participate in a rotational on-call pager duty and contribute to blameless postmortems.
  • Partner with security, compliance, consumer teams, and other senior engineers across the data platform org.

Requirements

  • Typically around a decade of relevant experience, with demonstrated work valued more than years on paper.
  • A career building data platforms and the abstractions they run on, not just data pipelines.
  • Production experience with modern lakehouse technologies such as Iceberg or Delta on S3.
  • Strong familiarity with AWS data services such as S3, Glue, and EMR, plus Spark, Airflow, Kafka, and IAM boundaries for multi-tenant data access.
  • Mastery of Python in a production data-platform context and credible depth in Go or Java.
  • Experience evolving live infrastructure and sequencing changes to avoid disrupting dependent teams.
  • Experience owning major platform transitions, including build-vs-buy decisions, migration design, risk management, and end-to-end delivery.
  • Ability to influence across platform, security, and consumer teams through design docs and RFCs that are actually read.
  • A history of growing other engineers, including peers at the same level.
  • Helpful but not required: payments or fintech experience, including PCI-DSS, SOX, or SOC 2.
  • Helpful but not required: CDC tooling experience such as Debezium or Kafka Connect.
  • Helpful but not required: data governance tooling experience such as DataHub, Amundsen, or Collibra.
  • Helpful but not required: public technical writing or open-source contributions to data infrastructure.
