Description

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for MLS and property data, including streaming and batch pipelines, microservices, storage layers, and APIs.
  • Design and evolve event-driven Kafka-based data flows for ingestion, enrichment, recommendations, and AI use cases.
  • Design, build, and operate backend services in Python or Java that expose listing, property, and recommendation data through APIs and microservices.
  • Implement scalable data processing with Spark or Flink on EMR or similar infrastructure, orchestrated with Airflow and deployed on Kubernetes where applicable.
  • Build and maintain high-volume streaming and batch pipelines that ingest, normalize, and transform MLS and third-party data.
  • Ensure data quality, lineage, and governance are built into the platform to support analytics, AI/ML, and customer-facing features.
  • Partner with analytics engineering and data science to improve data discoverability and self-service usability.
  • Collaborate with ML and AI engineers to design and scale AI agents for feed onboarding, discrepancy triage, and other operational workflows.
  • Define evaluation, logging, and feedback loops to continuously improve AI-driven systems and data products.
  • Collaborate with Product, Engineering, and Operations to shape roadmap priorities and translate ambiguous problems into phased technical plans.
  • Mentor and unblock other engineers through pairing, reviews, design guidance, and technical leadership.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including ownership of production systems end to end.
  • Significant experience with data-intensive or distributed systems at scale with high volume and high availability.
  • Prior senior, staff, or lead-level experience influencing architecture, standards, and technical direction.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Java.
  • Experience building microservices and APIs, including REST or GraphQL.
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event and messaging platforms such as Kinesis or Pub/Sub.
  • Deep experience with Spark or Flink for large-scale streaming and batch processing.
  • Experience with Airflow or equivalent orchestration tools.
  • Experience with Kubernetes for running data or compute workloads.
  • Strong SQL and data modeling skills, including ETL or ELT patterns, data warehousing concepts, and performance tuning.
  • Experience building on AWS preferred, or another major cloud provider.
  • Experience building or integrating AI agents into production workflows.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as PydanticAI, LangGraph, Claude Code, or similar.
  • Comfort working with logs, telemetry, and evaluation metrics to monitor and improve AI-driven systems.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives across teams from idea to production.
  • Track record of mentoring engineers and raising the bar on code quality, testing, and design.
  • Strong communication skills for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Customer and product mindset focused on end-user and client experience.
  • Experience with Iceberg, Hive, or other table formats and data lake technologies preferred.
  • Experience with Snowflake, Athena, Redshift, or other cloud data warehouses preferred.
  • Experience with dbt or similar transformation frameworks preferred.
  • Experience with data quality or observability tools such as Great Expectations, Monte Carlo, or Datafold preferred.
  • Experience with vector databases or retrieval tools such as LanceDB, Pinecone, or Elasticsearch/OpenSearch preferred.
  • Background in real estate, marketplaces, or other customer-visible data-quality domains preferred.
  • Prior experience in a startup or high-growth environment preferred.
