Description

  • Own the end-to-end architecture for MLS and property data, including streaming and batch pipelines, microservices, storage layers, and APIs.
  • Design and evolve event-driven, Kafka-based data flows that power listing ingestion, enrichment, recommendations, and AI use cases.
  • Design, build, and operate backend services and microservices that expose listing, property, and recommendation data via robust APIs.
  • Implement and maintain scalable data processing for streaming and batch workloads (Spark or Flink) orchestrated via Airflow and running on Kubernetes where applicable.
  • Build and maintain high-volume, schema-evolving streaming and batch pipelines that ingest, normalize, and ensure quality of MLS and third-party data across 400+ feeds.
  • Champion observability and operational excellence—metrics, tracing, logging, alerting, runbooks, SLOs—and participate in on-call duties.
  • Collaborate with ML/AI engineers to design, integrate, and scale AI agents that automate feed onboarding, listing discrepancy triage, and other operational workflows.
  • Partner with Product, Analytics Engineering, Data Science, and Operations to translate business problems into technical strategies and shape the data platform roadmap.
  • Drive technical design reviews, set engineering best practices, make tradeoffs around reliability/performance/cost, and mentor other engineers.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, including owning production systems end-to-end.
  • Significant experience with data-intensive or distributed systems at scale (high volume, high availability).
  • Prior experience in a senior or staff/lead role influencing architecture, standards, and technical direction.
  • Strong programming skills in Python or Java, with experience building microservices and APIs (REST/GraphQL).
  • Hands-on experience with Apache Kafka or similar event/messaging platforms (Kinesis, Pub/Sub, etc.).
  • Deep experience with Spark or Flink for large-scale streaming and batch processing (on EMR or similar), and with Airflow (or equivalent) for orchestration.
  • Experience running data/compute workloads on Kubernetes and strong SQL and data modeling skills with understanding of ETL/ELT and data warehousing concepts.
  • Experience building on AWS (preferred) or another major cloud provider with awareness of cost, reliability, and security tradeoffs.
  • Experience building or integrating AI agents into production workflows and familiarity with frameworks such as PydanticAI, LangChain/LangGraph, Claude Code or similar.
  • Comfort working with logs, telemetry, evaluation metrics to monitor and iteratively improve AI-driven systems; strong communication and mentorship experience.
