Description

  • Manage and develop patent and trademark portfolios, including prosecution, enforcement, office actions, clearance analyses, and outside counsel relationships.
  • Identify inventions and key jurisdictions for patent and trademark protection with internal teams.
  • Advise on intellectual property matters involving patents, trademarks, trade secrets, licensing, open source, and portfolio strategy.
  • Draft, review, and negotiate agreements involving the development, licensing, transfer, protection, and commercialization of IP.
  • Provide guidance on IP issues arising from commercial transactions, product development, and business initiatives.
  • Review social media and promotional materials for intellectual property and consumer protection compliance.
  • Support corporate transaction due diligence by assessing IP risks, ownership, and compliance concerns.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Product, Privacy, Engineering, Marketing, and other cross-functional teams.
  • Monitor legal developments affecting patent and trademark transactions and apply them to counseling and contract strategy.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited U.S. law school and active membership in good standing in at least one state bar.
  • 5+ years of legal experience at a national or regional law firm focused on patent prosecution for consumer software and hardware technology.
  • Experience advising on trademark, patent, and open source matters.
  • Experience or interest in drafting, revising, and negotiating complex IP-related contracts.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills for working with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment with strong attention to detail.
  • Interest in using AI-powered tools and technology to improve efficiency.
  • In-house consumer technology experience is preferred.
  • Trademark prosecution experience is preferred.
  • An undergraduate degree in a technical discipline such as computer science is preferred.
