Description

  • Design, develop, and maintain access controls and governance systems that protect data integrity and privacy.
  • Ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of the data platform.
  • Work closely with Product, Data Science, and ML stakeholders to understand needs and deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Shape data infrastructure from design and technical decisions through project management and execution.
  • Help build the platform and data lake foundation that supports Instacart’s data strategy.
  • Collaborate with engineers across teams to co-create and support system contributions.
  • Use technical judgment to improve how data is processed and used across departments.
  • Participate in solving large-scale engineering and data infrastructure challenges.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience.
  • Strong understanding of distributed systems.
  • Proven experience with data processing technologies such as DBT and Airflow.
  • Experience with common web frameworks such as Rails.
  • Proficiency with SQL for writing and reviewing complex queries.
  • Ability to design for scale with the entire system in mind.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills.
  • Strong communication skills and comfort seeking and receiving feedback.
  • Experience influencing stakeholders at manager, director, and VP levels.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience (4+ years).
  • Prior experience in Data Platforms (preferred).
  • Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, Hadoop, Flink, Hive, or Kafka, and with both streaming and batch pipelines (preferred).
  • Strong general programming and algorithm skills (preferred).
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy (preferred).
  • Experience writing complex and optimized SQL queries (preferred).
  • Data-driven mindset (preferred).

  • Base salary ranges from $192,000 to $242,000 USD depending on location.
  • Eligible for a new hire equity grant.
